These rings feature an inlay of Navajo Sandstone, a geologic rock formation dating back to the Early Jurassic period, ranging in age from 195-200 million years old. Stegosaurs, ichthyosaurs, and other dinosaurs were roaming the earth at this time. The sandstone was collected from the Colorado Plateau region near Moab, Utah.
The Navajo Sandstone is responsible for many important landmarks throughout the Colorado Plateau. It can be found in many national parks and monuments including Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Arches National Park, Zion National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument.
